Christmas Poem

I mentioned in December that I had entered a poem into the Writing Magazine Christmas Poem competition. The winners were published in the May edition of Writing Magazine. Unfortunately I was not one of them.

I read what the adjudicators had to say about the entries they received and they had some very harsh things to say! One of the problems they listed was that poems entered had nothing new to say. The problem I am conscious of with my New Beginnings poem. The two prize winning entries were certainly original and perhaps mine wasn't as original as it could have been (a new baby bringing life back into Christmas) but I am still proud of it!

Still Struggling....

After my excitement at getting published and treating myself to a new netbook you would have thought it would have been write, write, write but its all been a bit slow....mainly because I have been working nearly full time due to people being on holiday. This has been exhausting - and don't forget a two year old having to be looked after in the equation as well!

I have been trying to write a poem entitled 'New Beginnings' but everything I write seems to be so old hat and been said before. The closing date is this weekend so I have been typing up ideas on the netbook today while Jamie has his nap. I hope to have time tonight to have another look at it!

Published!!

I know its been a week or so since I last uploaded an entry. This is mainly because I have been doing more than my extra 20hours at work. I keep thinking of all the money. I have been able - with a little help from daddy and Jamie for Mothers Day - to treat myself to a little netbook to help me in my quest to get more writing done. I still seem to be overwhelmed with paper most of the time but I do feel I am getting there.... As for the good news; the letter that I sent to Writing Magazine regarding my Induction was published in the May edition. It wasn't the Star Letter (which could have won me a prize) but it was published with my name at the bottom so I am over the moon about that!! Just off to try to get my head around a poem I have been writing for a competition for this years: http://www.swanwickwritersschool.co.uk/ Unfortunately it seems riddled with cliches at the moment - help!!
